The goal of the bus stop is to reinforce the university’s attempt at incorporating sustainability into its identity. Since visitors to the campus are the main users of this bus stop, it is important that the new bus stop set the sustainable bar for what will soon be a fully sustainable campus. The design accomplishes this by becoming a living showcase for the energy used and produced by the bus stop. Firstly, the shape of the structure offers specific views so that the visitor is able to very clearly see the types of sustainable solutions offered by the design. The sustainable solutions include site orientation for both optimum solar rays and shading and solar panels to collect all of this energy. Secondly, within the bus stop there is an electronic system that measures how much energy is being harvested as well as how much is being used. Lastly, at the end of the day when the Blue Route Evening Shuttle Schedule comes into effect, the bus stop will use its conserved energy to stay lit to provide safety for its riders.
It is important to remember that the structure is first and foremost a bus stop. As such, within the structure and electronic system, the already existing Shuttle Tracker is implemented so that as riders approach the bus stop, they are already aware of how long they have to wait for the bus and can therefore decide to take a seat for a long wait or simply lean against the structure for a little rest before their bus arrives.
