i think good effort but need some space for bus parking
Posted Sep 10, 2009 6:09 PM by usamajk

thanks for ur comments bro....actually the bus has to park a little ahead of the stop on the side lane reserved for it already......perhaps it was not to be included in the design scenario or options....thanks alot for commenting on my design n ranking it......

Nice effort but unfortunately failed to inspire/attract me. I, being a frequnt public transport user, can challange everyone stating it as a functional design. As a user, I want a bus stop to facilitate me and turn my wait for the bus a bearable act and not distract me with plasma screen. By enclosing it and providing it with plasma screen, you are facilitating homeless people a nice place to stay at, students to smoke at and hiding place for bunking, which i am afraid is not what it is intended for. Other thing is that from outside, it seemed more like fuel/CNG station present here in our country. other thing which is very confusing for me is the providing of bicycle parking along with your waiting area. By doing this it would become a place for teenagers to park their bicycles outside it and enjoy doing inside whatever they want to do, and you know well what they want to do. If you know what i mean. From inside, it looks more like an informal sitting space like Cafe etc. with which i don't have much issues but I have issues with the sitting which is highly uncomfortable(those solid boxes), atleast for me. Moreover in your second image, the postures of people are strong point in justifyng my above mentioned opinion that it would not be used by persons waiting for bus but by people looking for a place for resting and other such activities but not for waiting for bus. So how can it be called "Highly Functional". I think you should first understand the real function of a bus stop and then analyze it again. Can someone explain to me that from where is this design "ENVIRONMENTAL AND CULTURAL FREINDLY AND PURPOSE MADE" as commented by MR. SHUJAT ALI HAMID, at least i am unable to understand it. waiting for explanations and ....... A positive note to conclude it that it is very positive thing that at least you are the only student from COMSATS who keep on getting time for such activities from his busy scedule. Regards Haseeb Saeed.

@ Haseeb Saeed .........finally u came up to the atge.....i appreciate it first.....secondly u make a clear criticising effort for the design analysis....highly acceptable.......thiirdly there will b issues with the proposed design.......i agree......4th the place for which it is build....it acts as a community place......5th this bus stop will definately not proposed for the murree road in rawalpindi.....6th the culture of utah and the salt lake has been far more different the climate or the scenario of the environment is different from rawalpindi.......7th oh bhai kabi sms ka jawab bi dia karo har waqt kanjoosi par hi hotay ho.......8th its a very vast area so people there r using bicycles to park at the stands from from where they go by bus to their destinations....so they needed one....9th plasma screen acts as a source to make their time for waiting more comfortable....they have the sence of using the time properly......n kindly go through my statement the plasma will mainly provide view of the bus from the camera on the front side of the bus stop so that people sitting in opposite direction doesnt miss it....it will also chow the bus schedules along with some music etc......i guess.....thats it for the time rest we can discuss back in the office or in any bus stop....bye bye...

It is a blend of old as well as modern architecture. Why not to have some colors to avoid glare. Anyway good attempt. Engr. Zahid Hashmi Director ERRA, Islamabad

A bus stop is supposed to be a communal space, where different people interact, not just wait for buses like robots. Socialising is one of the biggest issues of our age, and it provides a very good environment. The importance of plasma can only be understood when u visit an area whose bus routes you dont know, so its very thoughtful. The basic point of criticism should be suggestions for improvement. The attempt is good. Keep it up & Best of Luck. I agree that its too white, colors need to be added.

very interesting communal space; I like the white and the complexity but may be a bit too complex in the day to day usage. Uwe R. Fitz Architect

COMMUNITY HUB BUS STOP

Submitted by omershujat on September 10, 2009

The concept of my design was to maximize the usage of the space available for the bus stop to make maximum covered seating for the large community that is associated withe the bus stop and its related activities. Though I also have provided some informal semi covered seating for the students and others to enjoy the views and the environment in moderate conditions. In order to bring in more safety and comfort, I developed the bicycle parking in a manner that it is easily viewable for all. Sloppy roof designed in two directions will help to drain out the rain water and water from snow too. To enhance my view, i have proposed maximum glass on the front side of the bus stop to maximize the view but help avoid problems of cars gushing dirty water on the people sitting in the open bus stops. All entrances and exits have been given proper passages with slopes and handrails to help the special people. A plasma screen tv has been introduced to provide entertainment to the waiting people along with information of the bus route and view of the bus from a camera placed on the top of the bus stop on the front side. Small vertical opening have been provided on all sides of the bus stop to help proper lighting and ventilation too. Display columns on the outside will make the bus stop visible to drivers and visitors even from some far distance. My orientation of the building was in such an order that waiting people can attain sunlight in winter but can easily avoid it in the summer. Interior floor pattern of the bus stop has been inspired from the famous spiral jetty of the salt lake city.
