This bus stop has many things which are missing from your average stop. It has boards which show the next three buses due to arrive and how far they are away; three touch-screens that enable a passenger to find and book routes and seats at the touch of a, well, screen; and three buttons marked 1, 2 or 3 which, when pressed, flag down the first, second or third next buses. For each seat there’s an electric socket, and (guess what?) a cup holder. Yep, this design has everything.
By way of hygiene it has a composting toilet with a waste hatch at the back to enable cleaners to remove the compost. It also has recycling but I seem to have forgotten a composting bin. There’s also a tap for drinking water and even some plastic cups.
For heating we have underfloor heating, and for summer we’ve got air con. Both turn on and off automatically.
Rainwater is collected from the roof into a tank, and is the filtered and pumped up to the taps. Of course, there won’t always be enough rainwater so it’s automatically topped up by mains water if it gets too low.
